Description

WMUR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Manchester, New Hampshire, is looking for a driven, community-focused, digitally savvy Assignment Editor who thrives on breaking news and multiplatform storytelling. This is your opportunity to shape how our audience experiences the day???s top stories on-air, online, and on every screen.  As the heart of the newsroom, you???ll help lead the charge in newsgathering, driving digital coverage, and helping define WMUR???s presence on television, web, app, and social media platforms. You will report to the Managing Editor.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor digital feeds and police scanners for breaking news and story ideas across New Hampshire
  • Gather and organize press releases, emails, phone calls and viewer tips. Decide which of the above will yield compelling content for newscasts
  • Lead digital content creation and distribution, writing, editing, and publishing compelling, accurate stories and social graphics for WMUR.com, our mobile app, and all social platforms (YouTube, Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, etc.).
  • Send breaking news push alerts and live updates across digital platforms with accuracy and urgency.
  • Produce and post short-form and vertical videos tailored for mobile and social audiences.
  • Coordinate and communicate with field crews, producers, and digital producers to ensure seamless coverage across platforms.
  • Manage story assignments and content flow
  • Monitor trending topics, community conversations, and viewer tips to find the next great story.
  • Uphold the highest editorial standards and ensure brand consistency across all content.

 

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of social media engagement, push alert strategy, and mobile-first storytelling.
  • Familiarity with newsroom content management systems, FTP, and basic video editing tools.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, including answering viewer phone calls, monitoring social feeds, coordinating crews, and publishing updates simultaneously.
  • Calm and decisive under pressure, especially during breaking news.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Related military experience will be considered.
  • In-person attendance is required
