THE REPORTER, SEACOAST REGION PRODUCES DAILY NEWS STORIES AND FEATURES IN ORDER TO HELP NHPR FULFILL ITS MISSION. HE/SHE LIVES IN THE SEACOAST REGION AND PRIMARILY REPORTS ON THE AREA, BUT ALSO PERFORMS GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTING THROUGHOUT THE STATE, AS NEEDED. THE REPORTER PROVIDES INTELLIGENT, BALANCED CONTEXT FOR NEWS STORIES; PROVIDES IMAGINATIVE ANGLES FOR HUMAN INTEREST AND FEATURE STORIES; COVERS BREAKING NEWS AND DEVELOPS SOURCES IN ORDER TO ORIGINATE NEWS. THE REPORTER STRIVES TO ENSURE TIMELY, IN-DEPTH AND INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING, TAKING A WATCH DOG ROLE FOR THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE. HE/SHE IS INNOVATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE AND UTILIZES ALL JOURNALISTIC TOOLS AND DIGITAL MEDIA RESOURCES TO ENSURE THAT NHPR TELLS A STORY MOST EFFECTIVELY.
 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:



  • GATHER, WRITE AND PRODUCE NEWS REPORTS BOTH ON-AIR AND FOR DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION

  • USE INITIATIVE AND SOURCE DEVELOPMENT TO ORIGINATE NEWS. ENSURE TIMELY ENTERPRISE REPORTING. MAINTAIN CURRENT WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF SEACOAST ISSUES AND NEWS EVENTS

  • PRODUCE OCCASIONAL MULTIPART IN-DEPTH SERIES, PARTICIPATE IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION OF SPECIAL PROGRAMMING AND EDITORIAL INITIATIVES


·         WORK VARIED SHIFTS TO MEET NEWS COVERAGE DEMANDS, INCLUDING BREAKING NEWS, STORM CONDITIONS AND OTHER APPROPRIATE COVERAGE REASONS



  • UTILIZE SOCIAL MEDIA APPLICATIONS, SUCH AS FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND OTHERS, TO DISSEMINATE NEWS TO THE NHPR AUDIENCE. CURATE THEMATIC WEBSITES AND OTHER PERTINENT NHPR DIGITAL CONTENT AREAS AS ASSIGNED. WHERE POSSIBLE, UTILIZE LISTENER ENGAGEMENT TOOLS, INCLUDING THE PUBLIC INSIGHT NETWORK

  • PARTICIPATE IN STATION FUNDRAISING, LIVE APPEARANCES AND SPONSORSHIP ACTIVITIES



  • SEEK PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND TAKE INITIATIVE TO LEARN NEW SKILLS IN REPORTING, ON-AIR PRESENTATION AND DIGITAL NEWS PRODUCTION



  • MAINTAIN JOURNALISTIC ETHICS AND CONFORM TO STATION POLICIES


·         EMBRACE, DEMONSTRATE AND PROMOTE THE MISSION, VALUES AND ATTRIBUTES OF NHPR


 


REQUIREMENTS:


EXPERIENCE:


·         DEMONSTRATED NEWS JUDGMENT IN RECOGNIZING THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF A NEWS STORY AND IN DEVELOPING STORIES APPROPRIATELY


·         DEMONSTRATED INITIATIVE IN DEVELOPING SOURCES TO PRODUCE ORIGINAL NEWS COVERAGE


·         DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO DEVELOP CREATIVE APPROACHES TO HUMAN INTEREST COVERAGE AND FEATURE STORIES                    


·         A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS OF REPORTING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


·         ONE YEAR OF BROADCAST JOURNALISM PREFERRED AND WILLINGNESS TO DEVELOP BOTH BROADCAST AND DIGITAL NEWS SKILLS


·         SOME EXPERIENCE IN PRODUCING OR EDITING DIGITAL MEDIA IN ADDITION TO AUDIO IS DESIRABLE (VIDEO, INTERACTIVE MEDIA, PHOTO EDITING, BLOGS, ETC.)


·         WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE AND SEACOAST ISSUES DESIRABLE


 


SKILLS:


·         EXCELLENT WRITING SKILLS, INCLUDING RADIO SCRIPT WRITING. NEWS WRITING EXPERIENCE FOR PRINT OR DIGITAL A PLUS


·         STRONG INTERVIEWING SKILLS


·         DEMONSTRATED RADIO EDITING AND PRODUCTION SKILLS. EDITING AND/OR PRODUCTION SKILLS IN OTHER DIGITAL OR PRINT FORMATS A PLUS


·         TECHNOLOGICALLY VERSATILE WITH WILLINGNESS TO EXPAND SKILLS


·         KNOWLEDGE OF RELEVANT FCC RULES AND REGULATIONS
